How Do I Apply?

How do I apply? (Deadline Jan. 15, 2020)

The application deadline for students interested in enrolling in Fall 2020  is Jan. 15, 2020.

Our graduate program is a mentor based system, meaning that you will work with a faculty member during your first two years on a research project of mutual interest. To be admitted, you must meet the requirements of the Graduate Division and have a faculty member who is committed to working with you. This faculty member will be your mentor during your first two years.

We recommend taking the following steps.

  • Review our faculty and their individual websites, particularly their research and teaching interests. Identify those with interests matching your own.
  • Contact the faculty members whose research interests coincide with your own. Are welcome to contact more than one member.
  • When preparing your application materials indicate in your cover letter the faculty member or members you are interested in working with.
  • Apply for admission through UC Merced's Graduate Divison. Details and online application forms are available on the Graduate Division's How to Apply pages.

If you have any questions, please contact our Graduate Group Chair, Professor Irene Yen, at iyen@ucmerced.edu.
